Hannah went to the dentist for the very first time on Thursday! We had been looking forward to this and really talking it up. Our newest Pediatric dentist just built a new office (he had originally taken over the practice of the same dentist I saw growing up and was in his old office). This office is so nice and new and I was really looking forward to visiting it. I have gotten to know Dr. Y and his family over the past three years and was excited for him to finally take care of my child!
We really talked this up and a Dentist had visited Hannah's class recently. She was slightly apprehensive but still excited. The staff there was excellent and explained to both of us exactly what they were doing. They were so sweet and gentle.
First we got x-rays

Then weighed and our Blood Pressure taken

Then our teeth brushed. When we return in 6 months they will actually clean her teeth.

We got a new purple tooth brush and a sticker!

After our cleaning we saw the dentist. Dr. Y says Hannah has a class 2 overbite from sucking her thumb. This is also why she has such pointy teeth, because they don't grind on anything. It is
possible this will cause some skeletal damage (braces will be in our future) and possibly a lisp. We discussed our options such as putting in a thumb guard in the roof of her mouth but at this time, she is really just too young to understand she needs to stop sucking her thumb. We are going to work on the "reward" method and see what we can do. Other than that, we got a great report and her teeth are beautiful and healthy!
After the visit she got another sticker and a token to put in the machine where she got a prize! We can't wait to go back in October!
